Tola Twilight No.3
Tola Twilight is a series of paintings inspired by the twilight hour in Tola, Nicaragua. During his travels, Kori Gabs was captivated by the soft, glowing light that lingers just after sunset, when the sun slips below the horizon and the atmosphere takes on an otherworldly radiance. At this time, the air seems to shimmer, and fireflies emerge, dancing through the fading light.
Gabs translates this phenomenon through silver sparkles layered on lighter works and yellow dots dispersed across darker canvases, evoking the presence of fireflies. The interplay of dark and luminous hues reflects the gradual shift between day and night, while the translucent layers capture the essence of twilight’s soft glow.
Ultimately, Tola Twilight is an invitation to feel—each painting crafted to stir memory, wonder, and emotion, encouraging the viewer to pause and reflect on their own experience of light and transition.Acrylic on stretched canvas
