Gisela A. Lazarte's Sunbeams developed over the past winter, a season that has always
been challenging for me; this one weighing heavier still. Within a
practice that calls for presence to connect and flow with intuition,
making decisions guided by a deeper voice, how could I stay attuned
when the tensions from the external world were louder than ever?
After a while, I remembered that it is often at times like these when
a deeper breakthrough is possible. As in nature, growth comes
through rupture and repair. By allowing space for pain, both in
stillness and moving through it, something changes within. We see
ourselves more clearly than ever, face-to-face with our inner
strength, that undying spark. Much like sunbeams, which shine
brighter in the dark, and those first truly warm rays of sunshine of
the year quietly awaken something within.

These works push a balance between expressive, intuitive release
and intentional slow-paced pours. They contrast vivid marks with
expansive, soft textures in warm color palettes I kept returning to
seeking solace in the canvas and trying to imprint it there forever.
Just like sunbeams are also reminders of its powerful source, my
hope is that these works can be reminders of your own.
