The work invites contemplation of that affect one's collective well-being.
Encaustic art is an ancient painting technique involving heated beeswax mixed with colored pigments. The term "encaustic" comes from the Greek word meaning "to heat or burn." The process involves adding pigments, layering, scraping and fusing of one layer upon another. Encausting painting dates to the ancient Greeks and Egyptians who applied hot wax to ship hulls that later developed it into art form. Famous examples are the Fayum funeral portraits going back to the 1st and 3rd centuries A.D.
Care and Preservation
Encaustic paintings are extremely archival and will not melt under "normal" household conditions. Best practice is to avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures. Over time, should art become cloudy, it can be maintained by rubbing the surface with a soft cloth to enhance the sheen.
