Likes Lefts is a painting dedicated to left-hand breaking waves, a subject deeply tied to Kori Gabs’ lifelong connection to the ocean. Growing up in Southern California, Gabs developed an enduring fascination with waves, their rhythms, and their unpredictability.

The underpainting serves as an ode to the sea, rendered in natural blues and greens to capture its ever-changing hues. Layered above, white waves create striking contrasts, embodying both the beauty and chaos of the ocean’s surface.

Each wave is unique—shaped by shifting conditions and time—mirroring the individuality of every moment spent in the water. Through variations in form and movement, Gabs conveys this diversity, allowing the waves to mirror and inform one another within the composition.
