Brief Consciousness No.2

Brief Consciousness is Kori Gabs’ abstract exploration into the nature of perception and feeling. Approaching each canvas without a predetermined concept, Gabs allows the work to emerge intuitively, guided by instinct and emotion. The result is a body of paintings that build themselves organically, offering each viewer a distinct and personal experience.

Through a process of layering watered-down paint, Gabs makes instinctual decisions with each application, seeking moments of transparency that create depth and resonance. Because only one layer can be added each day, the works require time and patience, evolving gradually into their final form.

The series draws inspiration from the natural world—particularly the ocean, beaches, and jungles. Influenced by years of travel to remote locations through surfing, Gabs channels these landscapes into his practice, allowing memory and environment to shape the work’s atmosphere and rhythm.
